Christmas Party!!

17th Dec was quite amazing. We got to Mama Beth Children Program at Kijabe pretty early and did preparations for the Christmas Party. Thrilling power of the party was exceptional and the preparations from kitchen to hall decorations suggested that it was the greatest event this year. The Christmas tree and Father Christmas at least founded the Christmas mood.

Glory of the day was surprising! All the children gathered in the hall to eat delicious Christmas food prepared. The finger licking meal is truly memorable and unforgettable.

We had food bags, which contained two wheat flour bags and a 1\2 kg cooking fat each children for all 75 children in the program and all the staff working for these children. These food bags will last the families of these children for the whole Christmas season. Super powerful.  After being handed the food bags, the children prayed for David, the dear sponsor of the Mama Beth Children Program and the exceptional Christmas Party. It was a surprise to them so they were over joyed! It was amazing. So touching.

At the end, Jane Wathagana, Mama Beth’s daughter and the Program lead, created awareness about the party and who David was and eventually led them with a couple of Christmas chorals. The amount of smiles and thank you’s were uncountable. It was awesome to see each kid walk away with a bag of food for a month.

For David, the children love you so much and I may not exactly write their feelings for you but I’m sure it is intense. Thank Jane once again for such great love and devotion to serve to these children.

Thank you all for your continuous prayers and supporting Mama Beth children Program. For volunteering or special service to these children reach Ken at mamabethonline@gmail.com or Jane at jane@mamabethchildren.com.

Ken!! Merry Christmas……

Debbie Young

I know I start every blog the same, but WOW I wish I could really explain every thing about Debbie Young. It just isn't possible, but this update will give you at least something...

Debbie’s visit to Mama Beth Children Program with her two daughters was intense and full of the serious and impacting experiences these kids had and the ways they continue to grow. Debbie walked in the village of Kijabe being greeted by kids and villagers who genuinely cared and were really excited that they were around. I am sure she remembers and feels that love.

Debbie runs a NGO, The Americas Association for the Care of Children which supports Mama Beth's Children going to school.  Of course there are more children than funds at the moment.  So if you would like to donate to help support the children please see aaccchildren.org and be part of the special family.

A safari that took breath away!!

Kids from Mama Beth Children's Program had a two nights off to a Safari to Maasai Mara National park full of sweet experiences sponsored by Debbie Young.  All of these kids had never done this before and it was not at all like they would have thought. They were stunned. Speechless. They saw all animals such as lions, hippos, giraffes, hyenas, ostriches, zebras, and even unbelievable saw over 200 elephants!! It was a wonder. Again very beautiful.

They first saw some animals walking in a line on the horizon. Then after looking further and what they thought were trees, was over 50 elephants. Then continued down the road and there was about 60 more elephants, not even 50 feet away. Kept driving and there was more elephants. These kids could not put it in words. They remember just sitting down in the van amazed and thinking. It was really a breath taking experience.

The safari lounge was pretty incredible. Honestly, the feeling was different and nice sitting at a table eating a 5 star meal. Just a glance at these kids you could see how genuinely happy they were. The lounge was a nice place to relax and refresh, no matter the inner battles and the memories of poor lifestyles these kids lead.

The safari was all fun with a fantastic dinner, hanging out, laughing and telling stories and dancing infront of a born fire with the Maasai community dancers. We sincerely thank Debbie Young and her two daughters who made a life worth remembering experience to these kids in Mama Beth Children Program when visited. They all treasure her and wish she is back soon. Debbie Young is a dear sponsor of Mamabeth Children Program. We love You Debbie.

A plate of food that truly makes a difference!!

It is quite amazing. At only Ksh 200 (2 USD) per each Child, 3 meals a day, the ingredients, packaging, administration, and transport all covered, makes a huge difference for one child. Just a visit and hanging out with Mama Beth Children’s Program Kids, you’ll know exactly what this plate is a gold to them.

These life-sustaining meals of rice, corn flour, eggs protein, vegetables and fruits can be what will keep a life long of malnourished children in Mama Beth Children.

We invite partners like churches, corporations, schools, civic groups and volunteers to raise money for the food. You can also sponsor a child with a start of 60 USD and above for food and education to make a difference.

At Mama Beth, all ages can participate in this fun and unifying experience of giving hope and joy to children. Join us in games and spiritual programmes on Sat and an amazing fun filled December holiday. It is a life-changing events for all involved.

Kijabe Sweet Home!!

Well, it's here. Another incredible visit on the Sat of 22nd Oct 2011 to Mama Beth Children Program, Kijabe Kenya. This experience cannot be fully put into words, it was simply indescribable. We experienced true peace for the first time and witnessed true joy like never before. We felt, heard, and saw God clearer than any other moment of this life.... It was INCREDIBLE!

We got to spend time with the children who's joy and faith transformed our lives. We found children waiting for us and greeted us with tremendous expectations. We felt welcomed by exchanging of hugs galore with these awesome kids. We then proceeded to greet Mama Beth, the initiator of Mama Beth Children Program, her first born daughter and other two other amazing women who's heart of service changed our perspective.

We played new games and this time having new teams: China and Messiah. Messiah won in all games but we rewarded both teams equally with candies and biscuits courtesy of Jane Wagathana, Mama Beth Children Program lead. It was all Fun!! We then exchanged dance moves and jokes with kids. Kijabe is the place to be

I (Ken) introduced AWANA Club (derived from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed as taken from 2 Timothy 2:15) which has a mission of raising children and youth to know, love and serve Christ.

I will as well work on sharing specific stories and posting a few pictures every week.., So
Stay tuned :)

Kijabe Update!!

The Saturday of 15th Oct 2011, we (volunteers with Mama Beth Children Program: Ken, Lamec and Christine) traveled to Kijabe to impact life’s of kids in this village.  The one hour drive and 10-miles walk, we thought would be thigh-burning long but turned out to fly by. It was the most intense, incredible, and impacting event with kids we’ve ever done. We were soon submerged into their culture, Can’t even fully explain it. At first, these children had no idea what would happen but the new balls and balloons we came with, perhaps gave them a clue. These gaming items were bought by Jane Wagathana, Mama Beth’s daughter who lead the Program. May God bless her tremendously and the Partners who support this Program.

Over 70 kids gathered in the playing field from preschool kids to secondary school students. We first prayed and worshiped God.  It was amazing, these children can SING so well! We got to know them, they are amazing, funny, witty, and so much fun. We played so many games and they got way into it, coming up with dances and cheers. Awesome!!

The entire field busted out into a dance party. We divided in two groups, Msamaria (Samaritan) and Heavens. Each group had to give participants of each and every game and make sure all the kids participate. They danced their hearts out as they were cheering their competing teams.  The games included crazy relay races, sack races, balloon bursting, duck-duck-goose, football among others. It was so fun!! Msamaria won in all  games. “Team work led us to winning” Waithera, the team leader commented the win.

Then Christine got to go up teach and love.  She taught them obedience and Love of God to them. They then memorized verses from the Bible and an assignment to remember them next meeting. They all seemed to hang on every word and laugh at all the jokes.
The whole event is indescribable, but was totally LIFE CHANGING. Please keep these kids in prayers.

Romans 1:20 (NIV)
[20] For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.

Hunger for Happiness

"We have a very bad life," says Sammy, 9. "We don’t have enough food; we don’t have land to produce crops; we don’t have enough clothes. I remember days I have gone to School hungry!''

Memories of the children passing difficult and challenging times will probably never be far away. "Hunger," says Jedidah a form two student. "I remember hunger. I don’t have school fees, uniform!! It is very bad. I feel powerless, without any strength."

In the village of Kijabe, which is the Mama Beth Children Program’s area of operation, 90 percent of families are subsistence farmers who till small and overused land which yield less or absolutely no food crops. Most of  the kids in these families sleep hungry. Some are orphans, others HIV + and in really bad condition.
These kids are in such of happiness, the flowers of God!!
We can help them with food, school fees and clothes. You, your friend and I, is the Happiness Sammy, Jedidah  and the other kids in Mama Beth Children Program are looking for!! Partner with us..... Stay blessed
