The Saturday of 15th Oct 2011, we (volunteers with Mama Beth Children Program: Ken, Lamec and Christine) traveled to Kijabe to impact life’s of kids in this village. The one hour drive and 10-miles walk, we thought would be thigh-burning long but turned out to fly by. It was the most intense, incredible, and impacting event with kids we’ve ever done. We were soon submerged into their culture, Can’t even fully explain it. At first, these children had no idea what would happen but the new balls and balloons we came with, perhaps gave them a clue. These gaming items were bought by Jane Wagathana, Mama Beth’s daughter who lead the Program. May God bless her tremendously and the Partners who support this Program.
Over 70 kids gathered in the playing field from preschool kids to secondary school students. We first prayed and worshiped God. It was amazing, these children can SING so well! We got to know them, they are amazing, funny, witty, and so much fun. We played so many games and they got way into it, coming up with dances and cheers. Awesome!!
The entire field busted out into a dance party. We divided in two groups, Msamaria (Samaritan) and Heavens. Each group had to give participants of each and every game and make sure all the kids participate. They danced their hearts out as they were cheering their competing teams. The games included crazy relay races, sack races, balloon bursting, duck-duck-goose, football among others. It was so fun!! Msamaria won in all games. “Team work led us to winning” Waithera, the team leader commented the win.
Then Christine got to go up teach and love. She taught them obedience and Love of God to them. They then memorized verses from the Bible and an assignment to remember them next meeting. They all seemed to hang on every word and laugh at all the jokes.
The whole event is indescribable, but was totally LIFE CHANGING. Please keep these kids in prayers.
Romans 1:20 (NIV)
[20] For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
